Head to this historic military site perched on the Presidio's coastal bluffs to explore the remains of Battery Godfrey, a 1895 artillery fortress that once housed three massive 12-inch guns capable of firing 1,070-pound shells from miles away. The ruins sit right along the Golden Gate Bridge views, giving you a mix of early-1900s military engineering and some seriously scenic Bay Area landscape to take in. It's free and makes for a solid spot to learn about San Francisco's defense history while walking around an actual piece of it.
